3 girls Upstairs, stairing past my computer monitor, out the window I see three girls. One blue, one pink, one green. Having a picnic on a cold, windy, flurry-y day. Crazy kids. Chasing after their plastic bag. Stepping on each other's sandwiches. Searching for some unknown beings in the grass. So sweet. My eyes revert back to the computer screen. Must get back to work.

Lost in Translation: English to German to French to English I was too lazy to think of a good song, but that was fun anyway. Man, that translator sucks.
Guess my song (I'm sure the repetition will help you figure it out):
All the good with the anniversary all the good with the anniversary all the good with the anniversary of dear friend all the good with the anniversary

This is my husband.
You're very feminine, and you don't care who knows it. You're not willing to let homophobes get to you. You also like hats.

[Link] | Hi Cousin, You are basically the only one who reads this. I just looked at pics of your kids doing various activities. They are so cute. Love it.
I posted a comment on one of your entries a few days ago...can't remember where I posted it. I asked you about pets? You have new pets? What's up?
(BTW, I don't get the postings sent to my email anymore because it's inactive.)
Loving you. XOXOXOXOXOX Me

a crazy couple of weeks My fiance came to stay with me a couple of weeks ago. We have been living apart since last August. The last few times we were together (my last months before leaving home,Christmas, Spring Break), we fought a lot. But when we were apart we got along famously! We both thought that this time would be different. It wasn't. We had our worst fights. We broke up. But then we got back together, and the last couple of days have been great. We are giving it ONE MORE chance. If it doesn't work this time, that's it. We love each other soooo much, but we are VERY different. We can't stand to see each other miserable.... I hope it works this time.
Of course part of the problem is that I'm going to leave again. At the end of the summer I'm moving overseas. So, he's unhappy about that. He's being very supportive of my career, but he's sad that we won't be together. The poor guy. He was supposed to go with me, but due to visa complications, he can't.
ANYWAY, that's why I have been distant lately. I haven't been emailing anyone or calling anyone. I just didn't want to complain about the same old crap.

Tonight was my girl's dance recital. It was lovely...aside from the fact that there was NO tap. That's the biggest problem with this godforsaken town. No tap. I'm gonna get a month's worth of tapping in when I'm back in BC before heading away again. I can't wait to tap. GOTTA DANCE! Anyway, my girl was a great little dancer, and she had a lot of fun.
We are driving eight hours tomorrow to visit my mother one last time before we leave. My beau isn't exactly looking forward to it, but tough bedangees.

The Party Man, computers are wicked awesome! I'm sitting at home in Quebec, thousands of miles away from my loved ones who are currently living it up in BC. Zaftigvegan was kind enough to turn on her webcam during her party...so as I type, I am watching my lovely abreanowl show off in front of the camera. She keeps showing me bottles of wine and tons of delicious looking food. And omygod she just put her hunky son in front of the camera and he's got a mohawk! Way to go J! At least, I think it's her son. The camera isn't totally clear, but I recognize people by their shapes. I can see my aunt and my sweet baby cousins. This RAWKS! Thank you ZV!

after a bottle of wine... lately, every chance i get, i sit down at the computer and expect it to take me somewhere better. usually i'm let down. sometimes i'm perplexed (which is fortunately better than being let down) like just now when i read bigfatmama's latest journal entry. i wish i knew who that karen author is and just what exactly goats have to do with it all (although I do have a great imagination so i can guess)
and sometimes i love the computer. like when i chat with zaftigvegan. it feels good. even if we talk about stuff that just makes me long for more.

Why did the chicken cross the freekin road? SAEED AL SAHAF - Iraqi Head of Info The chicken did not cross the road. This is a complete fabrication. We do not even have a chicken.
GEORGE W BUSH We don't care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not. The chicken is either for us or against us. There is no middle of the road.
COLIN POWELL Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road.
TONY BLAIR I agree with George.
HANS BLIX We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.
DR SEUSS Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR I envision a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question.
GRANDPA In my day, we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.
RONALD REAGAN What chicken?
SIGMUND FREUD The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying sexual insecurity.
BILL GATES eChicken2003 will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook - and internet explorer is an integral part of eChicken.
ALBERT EINSTEIN Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?
BILL CLINTON What is your definition of chicken?
THE BIBLE And God came down from heaven, and he said unto the chicken THOU SHALT CROSS THE ROAD. And the chicken didst cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.
COLONEL SANDERS Did I miss one?

I need dental advice. My daughter, the poor thing, has had problems with fillings. They NEVER stay in. She had a shitty dentist who wanted to plug her full of mercury, and when I complained he talked to me like I was five. He put white fillings in her 5 year old mouth that apparently don't stick to children's teeth. You see, there are 2 kinds of white fillings. Grown up ones and kid ones. He used the grown up ones. So I took her to a different dentist who put the kid fillings in my kid. He also REDID the other fillings that didn't fall out because apparently the jerk dentist didn't clean out her teeth well enough before he filled them so cavities were growing underneath! UGH. The poor little girl is sooooo sick of dentists. Needless to say, she has gotten much better at taking care of her teeth in order to avoid THE CHAIR. But last night, I noticed that another filling has fallen out!!!! I think it must have happened when we were eating really sticky candy 2 days ago. We will be returning to our home city next month. Should I wait til we get back to see the dentist she likes? Can I wait a month? Or should I take her to a dentist here asap? She is 8 and 3/4. The tooth is on the lower, right side. When are those supposed to fall out? I tell you, I'm sick of paying for all this dental work. I don't have insurance.

trapped I want to go to Quebec City to see my Mommy for Easter. We were supposed to leave an hour ago. I woke up early, after staying up late and chatting with zaftigvegan til almost 2am, so that I could do the dishes and pack. Then I found out that the DAMN ROAD IS CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is only one road that goes from where I live to where my mom lives. It's closed. Too much ice.
And I need my mom today. I am weary. I wanted to get the 8 hour drive over with so that I could relax for 3 days before returning. Now my trip will be shorter, less relaxing. Blah.
I wish I could go back to sleep, but that's not likely.

[Link] | Ohmygod it's such a beautiful day here. When I came home from lunch I had to take off my coat it was so warm! I love warmth and sun. This is the reward for putting up with the worst winter of my life. I love it.
That's one thing I'm not looking forward to when I return to BC...dismal, rainy days. Blach.
At least in this godforsaken part of the country we have sun. Hooray for the sun!

dreaming in FRENCH They say that when you start dreaming in your second language that you are fluent...it's one of the signs. It is very difficult to measure one's progress when learning a language, and I have been quite discouraged lately as I don't see much progress at all. The whole reason I moved out here and put my daughter through all this torture was so that my French would get better.
I have had two dreams lately in which I was speaking French! But I don't think they really count as "dreaming in French" because in the first dream I was just translating something for someone, and in the second dream I was in a French class.
The French class was amazing. It was my "dream" class (funnily enough, it appeared in a dream). When I was in university, I took a billion French lit and grammar courses. To get a B.A. in French, there was only ONE course that focused on oral production. While it's true that the lit and grammar courses always had an oral component to them, they weren't what you would call communicative style language classes. I had just one that was, and it was amazing. I loved it, and I wanted MORE.
So that's what happened in my dream last night. I was in a class like that. My favourite professor was there, Mme Vautier. In real life she teaches grammar and quebecois literature, but in my dream she did an amazing job of getting us to speak. It was a big classroom...it had those chairs with those little side desks attached to them. It was dark in the room; only a little bit of natural light shone through the windows. There were many windows. Mme Vautier had beautiful, dark, curly hair that stuck out from under a velvety hat. At the end of the class, a few of us stuck around to talk to the professor. I asked my classmates, "combien de temps est-ce qu'il faut étudier pour apprendre une langue seconde?" or something like that...which means: how long do you have to study to learn a second language. Actually, I think I was more eloquent in my dream....

she's sick Today is the second day in a row that I didn't go to work because my girl is sick. Thankfully, the nature of my day job is such that it doesn't really effect anyone if I don't go. My night job is a different story. I'm looking forward to going to work tonight. I'm very tired of being cooped up in here with my poor, sick daughter. I think she will be well enough to go to school tomorrow. I really hope that the babysitter doesn't mind my girl coughing all night.
At least I've done some useful things while I've been stuck at home. 1. I found out that I have to file a Quebec tax return, not a BC one. 2. I did my prep work for tonight and tomorrow and Thursday. 3. I called about shipping my stuff back to BC. It's gonna be expensive! 4. I gave notice to my landlady. Fortunately, she is going to try to find a tenant for June. I hope she does, because that means I won't have to pay rent for the last month of my lease (I'm leaving one month early). 5. I did the laundry. I've kept on top of the dishes. 6. I called about interest relief for my student loans. 7. I called my future employer and left a message asking why the contract hasn't arrived yet. 8. I played with my girl. 9. I watched "America's Sweethearts". I love John Cusack but I didn't think I'd like this movie. I loved it. It was way better than I thought it would be. Nothing heavy, just good ol' entertainment. The only thing I didn't like was when they made Julia Roberts gain 60 pounds and called her fat. I thought she actually looked like a normal woman for a change with the extra weight. Her boob size finally matched her lip size.
Left to do: 1. More prep work (it's neverending) 2. More dishes (also neverending) 3. Pick up income tax form and fill it out. 4. Find pay stub for March (I've searched everywhere and can't find it, but I will need it for my interest relief application!) 5. Pay bills (after payday) 6. Play with my girl (also neverending, but usually enjoyable) 7. Find a cheaper way to send my stuff back home. 8. Perhaps look for a job (if I don't get the contract)!
That about covers it for now. I know I should wash my bathroom and my floors, but I hate that. I just sweep, vacuum, and wipe down the sink and mirror. Sometimes I clean the toilet. I'll wait for my boyfriend to get here to do the hardcore cleaning. He's going to be here for a month, and he'll need something to do while I'm at work! Poor guy.

ARGGHHH! My girl has been having problems with the kids at school. We are new here this year, and they are having trouble accepting her. They suck. However, the teachers and I have been encouraging her to make more of an effort to be social. For a long time, she didn't call any friends after school, and never saw any kids on the weekend. Finally, this week, she made a plan for a play date with Julie for Friday after school. Today, Julie said, oh sorry, I forgot that I had already made plans with Virginie. VIRGINIE, VIRGINIE, any time there is a problem, it is Virginie who starts it. My girl thinks that Julie didn't make plans with Virginie til afterword, and I agree. That Virginie. She makes me sooooo maaaaaad. I have half a mind to call her mother. But I don't think it would go over well, especially since I have trouble speaking French. The teachers have spoken to Virginie, and she's good while they are around, but they can't control this shit. What do I do?

eyebrow plucking Given the current hair removal theme on LJ, I've decided to tell a story.
My daughter has beautiful eyebrows. They are rather large for a little girl, though. And she has hair that grows in between them. But it grows in such a beautiful pattern. If people could see beyond society's idea of beauty, they would notice that my daughter has gorgeous eyebrows.
Anyway, some brat at school told her that she should SHAVE her eyebrows so that when she's a grown up she won't have one big bushy line straight across her head.
Until then, my girl didn't even know she had hair between her eyebrows.
